club there had been several teams on the island before the formation of the present in 1946, the first of these being established in 1906. north bute were the most successful having been runners-up in the 1923 sutherland cup. bute have had a great deal of success over the years winning many cups and league titles. between 2004 and 2013 bute have won the south division 1 twice, were five times balliemore cup winners including 2013 and reached 3 consecutive celtic cup finals, this being the most successful period in the clubs history. we have our own clubhouse which has a newly refurbished and enlarged bar, an extensive catering kitchen and a large function room catering for up to 150 guests. we can host all types of social occasions such as weddings, birthdays, retirement, fundraising, etc. and welcome all enquiries. in 2017 our first team played in south division 1, we had decided that another year in the national league would be detrimental to the younger members of our team. we finished up in fourth place, only one point behind the team in second. this was a very good campaign by our team as the younger players grew in stature and confidence ably supported by more experienced veterans. we can now look forward to 2018 knowing that we will soon be in a position to advance to a higher league . our second team remained in south division 2 and with the aid of many of our young stars of the future, again supported by several more experienced players,we comfortably finished mid table. manager david kilpatrick was delighted by the performances of the team over the season and again looks forward to next season with further progress being made with our youth policy. james craig, duncan cowan, john maccallum jnr., iain mcdonald and several others continue to be very active in training and coaching youngsters up to the age of 14 years having approx. 50 involved at present, the club has already benefited by several of the under 14`s playing for our senior sides. our youth teams again performed very well during 2017, all of our junior teams excelling in the various cups and leagues we entered, our under 14 team being especially successful. shinty is now being introduced into the curriculum of rothesay academy to provide competitive sport to their pupils and all our youth teams, including primary school age groups, are now involved in a competitive shinty environment which is greatly aiding their development. our p7 and p5 teams have again qualified for the national 6 a side indoor finals to be held in fort william on 3rd. march 2018. latest news we are pleased to announce that the john paul retreats have agreed a three year deal to sponsor our first team playing kit, we thank them for their generosity. lottery result the lottery numbers drawn on monday 30th. july were 1, 2 and 7. we had no winner which means its up to £800 for next week, now that`s a tidy sum. good luck. 2018 season normal 0 false false false en-gb x-none x-none on saturday 28th. july we had two games at the meadows, first up were second team against top of the table strachur. this was a very entertaining game although our team were under pressure from the start we took the lead from a goal from aidan macgregor who cleverly took the ball round the keeper and stroked it into the net. the visitors quickly equalised and dominated the rest of the game, it took two late goals however to give strachur a 3-1 victory. all of our team played well with special mention to aidan macgregor, carrie mccorm and rory mcdonald. our first team played kilmory, also at the meadows, with a 3pm start. the timing of these games may change depending on possible postponement of either match. youth shinty both our p7 and p5 teams won their age groups at the south of scotland 6 a side tournament at taynuilt, well done once again to our young players, a credit to our club, their coaches and their families. membership the membership fees of £50 for senior players and £10 for juniors will be due before or at our agm in january 2017 and we will accept payment in stages. we would also like to stress the importance of our club lottery in contributing to our income and would ask you all to play this weekly, its a way of supporting your club and an opportunity to win some money. to all members it is not only the players and coaches who contribute to the success of our club, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes that we sometimes take for granted . a team on the park depends on the hard work and efforts of all club members. we turn up on match days to a clean clubhouse and the away teams are treated to excellent meals prepared and served by margaret whitelaw, the soup is always delicious as is the home baking supplied by nancy gourlay, sadly nancy will not be at the clubhouse this year but the good news is she will continue to supply pancakes and fruit cake. margaret ensures our playing strips are washed and ready for each match. sincere thanks to you both. it takes a great deal of money to run our teams and maintain our clubhouse, in david herriot we have a treasurer who looks after our finances with great skill, he ensures money is made available whenever necessary and also that we have funds in the bank, we actually finished last season in the black for a change. this money comes from three main sources of income, we receive a payment from argyll and bute council for providing changing facilities for other local clubs. we also receive welcome income generated by the efforts of two other club members who provide a constant income stream. our chairman barry martin puts a great deal of effort into gaining and arranging various lets for our clubhouse including weddings, birthday parties etc. as well as dog training lessons and fitness classes for adults all providing good monetary income, this takes up a great deal of his time and often goes without notice, our thanks and well done barry. last but not least we have john maccallum snr. running our club lottery, he goes round the various outlets every monday collecting the tickets and money, supervises the draw and pays out the winnings. without this source of income we would struggle financially. thank you john. we would ask once again for your support by buying tickets for this lotto draw, it offers good prize money to those who participate. in addition we very much welcome the support given by our main sponsors, anthony mcmahon of the john paul retreat, greg and mara fisher of mcintyre butchers, david kilpatrick of the bike shed and colin and mags lockhart of ardbeg mini market. we also received grants and from various sources over the course of the year and generous donations from members and supporters, many thanks to you all. once again my apologies to
